Our Legacy Project Evolves
With a new paved pump track and sleek updated brand identity, Rocky Knob Bike Park continues to be the ultimate place to ride in the NC High Country.
13 years ago, a world-class bike park was a just a pipe dream for Boone, NC’s active community of mountain bike enthusiasts. Today, Rocky Knob Bike Park (RKP) is a reality in the NC High Country, and continues to evolve since opening in 2011.
Development of the 185-acre park was a collaborative effort between the Watauga County Tourism Development Authority, Destination By Design, Boone Area Cyclists, and numerous volunteers.
Most recently, the DbD team stepped in to reimagine the RKP brand, as well as design and build a brand new pump track.
Velo News and Freehub Magazine proclaimed RKP to be a premiere riding destination – attracting riders from across the globe.
However, Rocky Knob Bike Park offers more than just MTB trails, allowing hiking on many of the trails, public-use shelters, picnic areas, and an adventure playground. The park has truly evolved into a community asset widely used by residents, as well as visitors to the area.
The DbD team has helped build this $2 million MTB park from concept to completion; navigating grant acquisition, project management, and community outreach.
Given our long history with the project, we were excited for the opportunity to rework the brand and give the RKP logo a fresh look, as well as design and build a much-needed pump track for the park. The pump track is the latest in a series of updates and developments to the RKP infrastructure funded by the Watauga County TDA.
